Our Managing Director Lizzie Ward gave a presentation to plumbing apprentices at South Staffordshire College.
Lizzie spoke to three groups of students on legionella control and the opportunities available for a career in the water hygiene sector.
Course leader Andrew Chesworth thanked Lizzie for her presentation and for pointing students to potential new routes into a career.
He said: “’Many thanks to Lizzie Ward for a great presentation which got the attention of our learners.
“Lizzie brought another pathway in to the plumbing industry to the table for our learners which they may want to explore in future years.
“SAS Water is an established water hygiene company and, following on from this, South Staffordshire College is exploring how we can work together to build future employment for our learners.”
Lizzie said: “it was a really positive morning, and the students were a credit to the college. They were focused and interactive and asked great questions.”
The presentation was part of an event to celebrate the opening of the new Net Zero Training Centre at the college’s Rodbaston campus. Lizzie was one of four speakers presenting to apprentice gas engineers, plumbers, and electricians.
She added: “The college has invested in a very high standard of new facilities to support young people looking to enter the industry and workers wanting to change their careers. At SAS Water, we have a team of legionella consultants and commercial plumbers who work together to support water hygiene and safety in the workplace.
“It is a requirement under Health and Safety Law to undertake a risk assessment, provide information and guidance to employees, and to have access to competent advice. As a result, my team is always open to supporting organisations with legionella awareness workshops and are pleased to take that message into colleges and training centres.
“SAS Water employs apprentices and there will be opportunities available in future for students, such as those at South Staffordshire College.”
The South Staffordshire College Net Zero Energy Training Centre is supported by a £1.6m grant from the Government Getting Building Fund.
